The Ford Transmission Model E4OD Ford was introduced in 1989 as Ford's first fully electronic overdrive transmission. The E40D later became called the Transmission Model 4R100. The E40D and 4R100 is in all Ford commercial series trucks. These Overdrive Transmissions are Fords work-horses.

Over the years many transmission re-manufacturers and transmission re-builders designed upgrade parts for the Ford Transmission to improve performance and longevity of both the E4OD and 4R100.

The problem:

• After the third Gear shift point the Transmission Torque Converter locks and unlocks causing slippage, excessive heat, reduced fuel efficiency, and thus shortens the transmissions life all due to shift timing issues. This is a "Shift Flair" problem at the the overdrive shift point of both the E4OD and 4R100.

• Previous attempts to cure this "Shift Flair" issue have failed both from the electronic and hydraulic level and cause other problems.

• The "Shift Flair" problem is elevated as your gross weight increases.

The test for the problem:

• Get on the Interstate and accelerate, notice and feel your overdrive shift point.

• Then manually over-ride/cancel the over-drive; repeat the process of acceleration then once over 50 MPH engage the overdrive, notice and feel the shift point again, you will see that it will not have the "Shift Flair" problem.

The "Shift Flair" is shortening the life of your torque converter and transmission.
